The Domaine des Escavalins offers two self-catering holiday Gite rentals on a working organic olive farm.
This typical Provençal bastide is a stunning and exceptional place! Like a rite of passage, the adventure starts when you leave the village and follow the track up through pine and oak forest, leaving the pressures of the modern world behind to find the secluded and exclusive calm of Domaine des Escavalins, the place to really relax and unwind.
This unique holiday gite is a centuries-old but still working olive farm set below a dramatic circle of cliffs with wonderful views across wooded hills to the glittering Mediterranean sea in the distance. Committed to regenerative and sustainable agriculture, returning what we use to the land, like sheep droppings, compost or olive waste, we keep chickens and geese, and restore the pasture among the olive trees with a small flock of sheep which are always popular with children.
In the silence, you hear only the cry of eagles, the hum of insects, deer barking at night or wild boar you might see driving back after dinner in a local restaurant. On walks round the farm property, you will see masses of wild flowers, especially orchids in spring and early summer. Or, you can explore trails in 3,000 ha of national forestry which surround Domaine des Escavalins on the plateau above the cliffs behind, all inside “Natura 2000” and the National Park of La Sainte Baume.
Domaine des Escavalins produces its own Premium and High Quality Extra Virgin olive oil from the trees we planted 20 years ago, all local olive varieties in Provence. Our two gites are also available during our harvest (from the 3rd week of October) when the olives are just right (see this lovely film of our harvest) We press the same day in our own Olive Mill to produce delicious fruité vert “cold press” Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil which is online in our Shop from end-November.
The two self-catering gites can be rented together or separately. One is a very comfortable 3-bedroom apartment gite (6 people) on the top floor of the bastide farmhouse, with its own access, a private terrace and a plunge pool to cool off on those hot summer days (see this in a virtual visit to the gite at our Youtube Channel).
The second is a 2-bedroom beautifully restored cabanon (3 people, 2 + 1) typical of Provence, a tiny house set apart from the bastide farmhouse, with its own wonderful views over rolling green hills to the sea and Cote d'Azur only 24kms away.
Domaine des Escavalins is the place to escape urban life, recharge and regenerate, take some real “time out”, a truly magical place where you can find your still, small voice of calm.
